Harbour Energy Begins First Oil Flow from Subsea Tie-Back in Norwegian Waters
TechnipFMC, an oil equipment company, got a big contract in April 2022 to work on the Maria Phase 2 project. Their special ship called North Sea Atlantic moved a heavy 330-ton metal frame from Norway to the Maria oil field in 2023. Workers put this frame 300 meters underwater in the Norwegian Sea.
The Maria oil field first started making oil in 2017. Now they wanted to add more wells to get more oil out of the ground. The plan was to build four new wells using the metal frame they installed.
The government approved the new plan in June 2023. This project should give them about 22 million more barrels of oil.
Harbour Energy now owns and runs the Maria field. They said oil would start flowing in summer 2025, but it actually started on May 23, 2025 - right on time and within budget.
Michael Zechner from Harbour Energy said this project shows they can make money by using equipment that's already there. Three more wells will start producing oil in the coming months.
The Maria field has three owners: Harbour Energy (50%), Petoro (30%), and Sval Energi (20%). The oil goes through different platforms and systems before being shipped out. The field should keep producing oil until 2040.
